CHANGE YOUR VOCABULARY!

Hello Daughters of a King,

This topic has been in my heart…and I want to share it with you. It is regarding our vocabulary. Our vocabulary in our daily conversations can either be a blessing or a curse. I will explain…

Proverbs 27:19 says “…so the heart reflects the real person.” Just as I mentioned above “…for whatever is in your heart determines what you say.” (Matthew 12:34), is your vocabulary reflecting the real you?

James 3:10 says “And so blessing and cursing come pouring out of the same mouth. Surely, my brothers and sisters, this is not right!”. This reminds us that we are not the only ones being affected by what we say.

Here are two examples on how attitudes make a difference along with your vocabulary:

I read in a book about a woman who would ride the train every morning for work with the pretty much the same commuters. The commuters would read their newspapers, type on their laptops, etc. No one would say a word to each other. This woman decided to say “GOOD MORNING!” every time she entered the train. The commuters would look up at her like she came from another planet; she would receive a few “Good Morning”. Until one day one of the commuters kept seeing what she did every morning, it made him so happy to receive the “Good Morning” from her and then he would continue saying “Good Morning” to everyone he met after getting of the train.

Even making the smallest change in your vocabulary, you will see how much of an impact it makes on others! If you have a positive vocabulary, I ask you to spread it contagiously to others!

I was in the waiting area while my husband was having shoulder surgery. A young lady walks in the door alone and gets her registration paperwork. Her mom comes in moments later with the daughter's crutches and supplies needs for after her surgery. Mom, with an attitude, says “Did you just leave me downstairs all by myself?”. The daughter responded with an attitude, “Yes, I did leave you down there!”. End of conversation.

Treat others how you want to be treated! If you want others to talk to you like a child of the King of Kings and the Lord of Lords, then you should talk to the others in that same manner!

Are you hearing or listening to what you are saying? Hearing and listening are two different things: “Hearing” means to perceive sound; to listen with attention. “Listening” means to hear something with thoughtful attention. This means “listening” takes more effort!

Don’t let your feelings dictate what you are going to say. Be thoughtful before speaking. James 1:19 says “…You must all be quick to listen, slow to speak,…” You can even bite your tongue if you need to.

Colossians 4:6 says “Let your conversation be gracious and attractive so that you will have the right response for everyone.” Guard your testimony with your vocabulary!

Philippians 2:14 says “do everything without complaining and arguing”. Do you? If so, you will shine brightly reflecting Jesus who is the LIGHT that lives in you! If not, then I pray you will receive this word and use it in your daily conversation!

Change your vocabulary!

Change means to make different or transform, to shift, exchange or transfer. Change also takes effort! Change the negative vocabulary words in exchange for positive ones.

2 Corinthians 12:9 says “My grace is all your need. My power works best in weakness.” If your weakness is the vocabulary you are currently using, surrender it in God’s hands in FAITH, and let him show you his glory through your weakness!

Always remember, “…anyone who belongs to Christ has become a new person. The old life is gone; a new life has begun!” (2 Corinthians 5:17)…this means your vocabulary is also included in this promise from God!

Lord Jesus, thank you for always being there and knowing exactly which area we need molding and growth in. I ask you to help not only the women that have read this blog, but also myself included in changing the vocabulary. We know that it will take time to adjust to our new vocabulary, but we ask you to help within the process. We ask you, in the name of Jesus! Amen.
